Questions people usually ask first.
I've never seen a psychologist before — what should I expect?
The first session is a structured conversation aimed at understanding what's going on, what's been keeping it going, and what you want to be different. You're in control of what you share and the pace we move at. By the end we'll have a working sense of the problems and a draft direction for the work.
Do I need a GP referral?
A GP referral with a Mental Health Care Plan is required to claim a Medicare rebate, but not to book. You can enquire and book without one — we can arrange the referral before session one.
Do you offer Medicare rebates?
Yes. With a valid Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, you can claim a Medicare rebate per session. Under the Better Access scheme, up to 10 rebated sessions are available per calendar year. Current rebate amounts are listed on the Services Australia website.
In-person or telehealth?
Both. In-person in Parramatta; telehealth Australia-wide via secure video.
How does telehealth work?
Sessions run via a secure video platform. Most evidence-based therapies — including ERP, CBT and trauma-focused CBT — work well online, and Medicare rebates apply the same as in-person. See Telehealth for full detail.
Do you accept WorkCover and CTP referrals?
Yes. I'm SIRA-registered for both WorkCover and CTP claims. Referrals can come via your GP. See WorkCover & CTP for the full referral process.
Can I come back later if I need to?
Yes — re-engaging after a break is common and can be clinically useful. A short check-in to confirm what's needed is usually all that's required.
What issues are a strong fit?
OCD, anxiety disorders, panic, phobias, depression, PTSD, and stress/adjustment concerns.
What isn’t a fit?
I don’t currently work with under-16s, active psychosis, or current eating disorders needing specialist care. I’m happy to suggest suitable referrals.
How long and how often are sessions?
Standard sessions are 50 minutes. Most clients attend weekly to begin with, moving to fortnightly as progress stabilises.
How many sessions will I need?
Evidence-based protocols for OCD, anxiety, depression and PTSD often vary by condition. The right length for you depends on severity, complexity, and how problems are showing up for you — we agree an expected range in early sessions and review as we go.
What happens before session one?
You receive a short intake questionnaire by email and a brief orientation to what to expect. Session one focuses on understanding what’s going on and agreeing the plan.
What’s your cancellation policy?
At least 48 hours notice to avoid a cancellation fee. Late cancellations and missed sessions are charged at the full session rate (Medicare rebates cannot be claimed).
Is what I say confidential?
Yes — with standard professional and legal limits (risk of harm to self or others, court subpoena, mandatory reporting for clients under 18, serious crimes). These are discussed explicitly in session one.
Private health rebates?
Many private health funds cover psychology under extras cover; rebates vary by fund and policy. You need to check with your private health care provider. You cannot claim both Medicare and private health for the same session.
How do I pay?
Payment is taken at the end of each session by card. Medicare rebate can be processed on your behalf the day of your session for those on a Mental Health Care Plan.
